Ghana Mission
Trip: July 2002
On the
evening before His arrest, Jesus humbled himself by taking a pitcher of water, a
bowl, and a towel and washing the feet of His disciples. Normally, only the
lowest ranking servant would provide this service. When He was finished, He
instructed His disciples to "Go and do likewise." It was an act of
love and ateaching moment for them, and for us. Jesus calls us to serve others:
some with our hands, some with our minds, some with our checkbooks, but all with
our hearts.
A
mission team from the United Methodist Church of Newton, 430 Walnut Street,
Newtonville, Massachusetts will be serving together in Ghana, West Africa during
the last two weeks of July, 2002.0Their purpose will be to help build a church
for a village which doesn't currently have one. In addition to providing a
physical church for worship, it will also become a source for positive Christian
action by offering social service support and evangelistic outreach to the
community.
All
building materials (concrete blocks, metal sheeting for the roof, supplies for
the mortar, even the nails) need to be purchased and paid for in advance for the
mission team. Local masons and skilled craftsmen will also need to be hired.
Travel and related expenses for each participant will be approximately $2500.
Your financial assistance and prayer support would be most appreciated.
All
checks should be made payable to: United Methodist Church of Newton. Ghana
Mission Trip should be noted in the memo section.
This
effort is being coordinated in partnership with a Methodist Bishop from Ghana
and Rev. Dr. Seth Asare, United Methodist Church of Newton. Those who feel
called by the Lord to participate in this mission should contact Rev. Asare at
617-244-0275.
